There is a name missing from the ranks of the inducted members into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto: Steve Larmer

Over 15 years and 1,006 regular-season games with the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers, Larmer was one of the best two-way wingers of the 1980s and early 1990s. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's Rookie of the Year in 1982-83 and was a member of the Rangers' Stanley Cup championship team in 1994.

From 1982 to 1993, Larmer played in 884 consecutive games for the Blackhawks, an NHL record for most consecutive games played with the same team.

Here the list of right wings in NHL history who averaged 1.0 points per game in at least 1,000 points regular season games.

  • Jaromír Jágr – 1,921 points in 1,733 games
  • Gordie Howe – 1,850 points in 1,767
  • Teemu Selanne – 1,457 points in 1,451
  • Jari Kurri – 1,398 points in 1,251 games
  • Brett Hull – 1,391 points in 1,269 games
  • Guy Lafleur – 1,353 points in 1,126 games
  • Mike Bossy – 1,126 points in 752 games
  • Patrick Kane* – 1,105 points in 1,041 games (active)
    Kane's numbers as of Nov. 19, 2021
  • Theo Fleury – 1,088 points in 1,084 games
  • Joe Mullen – 1,063 points in 1,062 games
  • Alexander Mogilny – 1,032 points in 990 games
  • Steve Larmer – 1,012 points in 1,006 games

Of the 12 names on the list, five are not in the Hockey Hall of Fame: Jágr, Kane, Fleury, Mogilny and Larmer. Two of those — Jágr and Kane — haven’t been on the ballot yet.

It's time for the members of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee to reconsider Larmer's resume for induction. He has deserved a place in the Hall for more than 20 years. With former Blackhawks defenseman Doug Wilson being inducted, it's time for one of his long-time teammates in Chicago to get the call as well.
