Why this petition matters

Started by Save Our Happy Place

Twenty-nine percent of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation. Many automakers are making plans to transition to fleets of electric vehicles. Now is the time to demand they do so no later than 2030.

This petition will be sent to automakers assuring them of our enthusiasm for this transition and challenging them to set goals for carbon neutrality and at least 2030. Bravo to Volvo, Rollsroyce and Bentley for making this pledge!  While the auto industry at large is on the verge of great progress, all the less committed automakers will be hearing from us.

BMW, Ford, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen all set carbon neutral goals for 2050.General Motors carbon neutral goal is set for 2040.

The Good News: Ford, GM, and Stellantis recently announced a transition of their fleets to electric cars that jointly will lead to 40-50% of car sales to be electric vehicles by 2030 in the US. Almost every automaker has plans to integrate electric vehicles into their fleets with varying dates for reaching Carbon Neutrality. This news is huge and should conjure a little hope!

We need to hold some of the largest contributors to climate change to a higher standard. They can lead the way and set the example for the world as we transition to a more sustainable future.
