Why this petition matters

Started by Alan Baum

UPDATED: An Additional plan has been submitted to the city to build 200 units on the adjacent parcel, just north of the 132 unit complex. This would mean 332 units on 10 acres of wetlands and forest - that 600 new residents in a community of 200. That's 600 more cars on our roads. The infrastructure is not there in the roads for all the additional traffic.

Major points of issue:

- wildlife including deer, ducks, Bald Eagles, Osprey, Otters, possum, squirrels, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, etc

- trees and greenery that contribute to water filtration and soil retention on the shoreline

- insufficient road to accommodate the expected 600 cars of the residents

- added pollution to the lake with a sudden 600 residents having access

- noise pollution from the recreation hall and pool

- At Washington State's current sexual predator ratio, we can anticipate 3 sexual predators to move into our neighborhood

The land sits between the 16 acre Wanschers Park and the 23 acre Gwinwood retreat, with many animals trekking across it every day. The plans include leveling and cutting down 95% of the forest. If you live on our around Hicks lake, you will be affected by higher traffic and more people on the lake. By comparison, the Forest Grove apartments just adjacent have 136 units on more than 3 times the land size.

Donations can be made through Venmo @SaveHicksLake and a GoFundMe will be available soon.

Write to the city of Lacey at RFant@ci.lacey.wa.us and tell Mr Fant why the city should not allow 10 acres of forest to be destroyed for another massive complex.
