San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars in “improper” and “questionable” payments on taxpayer-funded credit cards, an internal audit found, including nearly $70,000 at local restaurants and almost $250,000 in transactions on non-working days. The Director, the highest-paid public employee in the entire county, is paid over $580,000 a year. He spent $17,000 on drinks and meals in the last two years—meals from high-end restaurants that included filet mignon and lobster bisque. Unaccountable gift cards and Amazon purchases were also made with these credit cards. SANDAG continues to push for billions of dollars in public tax increases for transportation projects, yet, they spend taxpayer money on self lavishing dinners and other expenses. The buck, or the thousands of bucks, stop here with SANDAG Chairperson Blakespear. SANDAG Chairperson Blakespear refuses to accept responsibility and take appropriate action.
