Why this petition matters

Started by James Lin

Every year, I receive a 4883C letter from the IRS. I call the Taxpayer Protection Program hotline every day for weeks without getting through. The one time I did get through, my call was disconnected. It is infuriating.

The current situation with the IRS's Taxpayer Protection Phone Line Hotline at 800-830-5084 is unacceptable. This number serves as a crucial lifeline for federal income tax identity verification, yet callers nearly always receive a message that due to extremely high call volumes, their specific request cannot be handled at this time.

This lack of service leaves taxpayers in limbo and creates unnecessary stress and anxiety during an already taxing period (pun intended). Callers are not placed on hold or given an option for a phone callback - they are simply left hanging with no resolution in sight.

We urge the IRS to either staff this hotline so that it can serve its purpose effectively or stop sending 4883c and 6330c letters. This issue affects millions of taxpayers who deserve better service from their government agency.

Let's stand together and demand change! Please sign this petition today to help us bring about much-needed reform in how our tax matters are handled by the IRS.
