Why this petition matters

As a citizen in a state where cannabis is legal for both medical and recreational use, I am deeply concerned about Facebook's current community guidelines. Specifically, the "Restricted goods and services" section which states "Marijuana : Content that attempts to buy, sell, trade, donate or gift or asks for marijuana." This single sentence is not only outdated but also infringes on the rights of legal businesses and citizens alike.

Cannabis is now medically legal in 38 states across America. Furthermore, it has been fully legalized for recreational use in 24 states plus Washington D.C. This means that millions of Americans are legally allowed to purchase cannabis products - whether for medical treatment or personal enjoyment.

However, Facebook's policy restricts these individuals and businesses from discussing such transactions on their platform. This not only hampers the growth of an emerging industry but also violates the rights of citizens to freely discuss legal products.

Moreover, this policy creates an unfair playing field as other pharmaceutical companies are allowed to promote their medicinal products without restriction. The medicinal benefits of cannabis have been widely recognized by scientists worldwide - it should be treated no differently than other pharmaceuticals on social media platforms.

We urge Facebook to revise its community guidelines with respect to cannabis-related content. It is time they align their policies with current laws and societal norms while respecting the rights of all users who reside in regions where cannabis usage is perfectly legal.

Please sign this petition if you believe that Facebook should update its policies regarding cannabis-related content!
