Save Dundas Street
Save Dundas Street
Why this petition matters
Help tell Toronto politicians and Mayor Olivia Chow that wasting taxpayer money is unacceptable, the damage to the people of Canada by radical agenda driven organizations who are not only attempting to change history for their benefit, they are attempting to set up Canadians with the name Dundas for irreparable disgrace and lifelong harm including children. We want to make this perfectly clear to Mayor Chow, are you prepared to do harm to innocent people as mayor of Toronto?
The legacy of Henry Dundas has been distorted and attacked. The true story of Dundas’s record on slavery and the slave trade is being buried. We hope to change that.
The truth is: Henry Dundas opposed slavery. He described it as “unjust” and “immoral” as early as 1776 during his successful pro bono defense of a Jamaican slave, Joseph Knight. Dundas won freedom for Knight, arguing that slavery was “unjust” and “immoral.” He said: “no man is by nature the property of another.” The court agreed, and declared that no one could be a slave in Scotland.
Toronto politicians are ignoring the truth and this will cost taxpayers millions of dollars and inconvenience millions more. Meanwhile other cities have voted against changing the name Dundas Street.
