Why this petition matters

Started by Scott Nicolson

Discovered By then 15-year-old local boy Douglas Coutts in 1958 during an Aberdeen University excavation of a medieval chapel On St Ninians Isle, Shetland, The Treasure Trove dated circa 750 - 825 AD consists of;
 28 silver-gilt objects, dating to the second half of the eighth century And can be grouped into categories relating to feasting, jewellery, weaponry. Twelve silver penannular brooches, eight silver bowls, one silver communion spoon, one silver knife, two silver chapes, one silver pommel, and three silver cones. And a Non-silver item In the form of a porpoise jawbone fragment.
 It is thought that some items were secular, such as the penannular brooches and different chapes from sword scabbards. Other pieces, including the bowls, spoon, and cones, may have been used in religious ceremonies or community rituals.

 The Treasure was removed from Shetland and intended to be displayed In the Aberdeen University Museum, However the Lord Advocate at the time ruled that It belonged to the crown And the Late Queen Elizabeth gifted the treasure to the national Museum of Scotland, In Edinburgh Where the treasure can still be seen today , Whereas In the museum In Shetland, the island where the treasure was discovered only have replicas on display.

We wish to see the Repatriation of the true St Ninians Isle treasure to Shetland, The place where it was discovered And is historically and locationally Linked, Where it can then be put on display in the museum For all of Shetland And the world to see In its natural habitat.
