Why this petition matters

Started by Rodney Stuhlsatz

Recently, the Hillcrest Neighborhood Association submitted a letter in support of the Sanders  Family's Appeal to the City Commission of Lawrence, Kansas from an administrative order  disallowing a proposed access road and driveway that would allow them access to the street  abutting their property, West 7th Street. The intent of this letter is to encourage the City  Commission to overrule the administrative order denying the Sanders' request. The signers are  familiar with the Sanders' home and the historic nature of that home and property, and only  recently learned that it is not presently possible for the City to provide the fire protection or other  emergency and non-emergency service that other residents of Lawrence, Kansas take for granted.  The Signers also understand that this is a very unique property that will require a unique  approach to resolving the problem that difficult, if not impossible, access creates.

The signers understand that addressing the problem presented by the location of this property  will require a new and innovative approach to providing access for City services to this  residential property, but given the nature and historic value, and the lives and welfare of the  family residing there, we wish to encourage the City to support the efforts of this family to obtain  adequate fire protection and other services that would allow them to maintain their residence as  important and valued members.

The sponsors of this petition are enormously grateful that the Sanders family has been willing to  undertake a restoration of this century-old iconic property and are distressed that the city has  been unwilling to accommodate their need for safety

The purpose of this Petition is to gather support from the community at large. We welcome the  signatures of any individuals and/or businesses.

If you agree, we welcome your signature as a statement of agreement that the problem is serious, needs to be addressed, and that you support the Sanders' proposal.
