Why this petition matters

Started by Sunayna Prasad

Not long ago YouTube removed and disabled comments on many videos if they were for kids or had minors in them. They even did that to one of my videos. I was 22, stated it, and was the only one in it.

I asked for comments, though, and received very kind ones. But YouTube ignored that factor. They removed the comments, disabled them on that video, and I had no option available to re-enable them.

Maybe they assumed that the video was for kids, because I reviewed a fairytale and compared it to a film adaptation of it.

Anyway, according to my research, other people are unhappy about this too. They've also had comments from their videos removed, disabled, and not given the option to re-enable them. Without comments, it can be harder for serious videographers to build platforms. Even if they post their videos to other social media sites, those followers may not necessarily be the types who are specifically into their niches done in video formats.

Forbidding people to have comments on their videos when they did nothing wrong is not nice, particularly if they had nothing to do with others writing mean comments on videos for kids or with kids. If others are writing mean comments, then those are their problems, not the ones' who upload the clips. Thus, it would only be acceptable if YouTube penalized them, and nobody else.

While mean comments are not okay, I can't imagine constructive feedback being against YouTube's community guidelines. For example, if someone in a video talks quickly and somebody else points it out and suggests how they can sound clearer, that would help the people in that video improve.

That system is already turning me away from uploading any videos to YouTube. There are other approaches to get comments on videos, such finding other sites or building your own. However, those who make their own websites, especially if they want them to appear professional and eye-appealing, might spend a lot of money. And promoting them may be costly.

So, all in all, YouTube users should have the right to get comments on their videos. If YouTube is so concerned about mean comments, which I have hardly ever seen in recent years due to messages reminding people to be respectful, then maybe they could consider a system where any comments submitted would be pending for approval and only be published If it's acceptable. It would also be great if they could restore the comments deleted from videos the company claims are for kids and re-enable them, as well, especially since a lot of them were polite and nice. I even saw lots of compliments.
