NO AL PUERTO DE CORRALEJO

La bahía de Corralejo, en Fuerteventura, ha sido reconocida durante mucho tiempo por su entorno marino único y sus perfectas condiciones para la práctica de deportes acuáticos como el surf, el windsurf, la natación, el foil, el kitesurf, el paddle surf, el buceo, el turismo y la pesca. Estas actividades tienen mucho valor y no solo contribuyen a la calidad de vida de las personas que viven en la isla, sino que también atrae a visitantes de todo el mundo, lo que da como resultado una economía local sostenible.
La construcción prevista de un gran muelle industrial tendrá graves consecuencias para la vida y el ecosistema en la bahía y sus alrededores. Se trata de una infraestructura innecesaria y desproporcionada que provocará impactos ambientales irreversibles en los fondos marinos, corrientes, olas y hábitat natural de las especies protegidas. El agua de la bahía no se renovará con tanta frecuencia como lo hace hasta ahora y a esto se le añade un mayor tráfico acuático con mayor estancamiento del agua. La bahía se convertirá en un ambiente hostil para la fauna que aún queda.
La posición del nuevo muelle provocará que las olas de Punta Elena, Waikiki y El Muelle cambien o desaparezcan y muy probablemente otras también se verán afectadas.

Todo esto se financia con DINERO PÚBLICO bajo el pretexto de mejorar la infraestructura cuando en realidad no es necesario.
En 2009, Fuerteventura fue declarada Reserva de la Biosfera por la UNESCO y las grandes construcciones como aeropuertos, carreteras, puertos deportivos y puertos industriales van en contra de los valores fundamentales del desarrollo sostenible y la protección de la biodiversidad.

El proyecto de 32 millones de euros tardará años en completarse, lo que significa años de polvo, ruido y atascos en el puerto deportivo y sus alrededores. Grandes muros bloquearán la hermosa vista de Lobos y Lanzarote y se perderá la singularidad de una ciudad que ofrece a la gente acceso a tantas actividades acuáticas sin tener que desplazarse en coche.
Este proyecto no es progreso y lo que será destruido tiene un valor mucho mayor que lo que tomará su lugar. Esta será una pérdida terrible para la gente y la isla de Fuerteventura y estamos pidiendo su ayuda para SALVAR LA BAHÍA.

Save the bay

The bay of Corralejo on the island of Fuerteventura has long been recognised for its unique marine environment and perfect conditions for water sports like surfing, windsurfing, swimming, foiling, kiting, paddle boarding, diving, and fishing. This holds a lot of value and not only is it contributing to the quality of life for people living on the island, but it also attracts visitors from all over the world resulting in a sustainable local economy.

The waves and the ecosystem 

The planned construction of a large industrial dock will have fatal consequences for the life and ecosystem in the bay and its surrounding areas. The unnecessary and disproportionate structure will cause irreversible environmental impacts on the seabed, currents, waves, and natural habitat of protected species. The water in the bay will not be renewed as often and with more traffic and less movement of water, the bay will become a hostile environment for wildlife. 

The position of the new dock will cause the waves of Punta Elena, Waikiki, and El Muelle to change or disappear and others will most likely be affected too. 

Protection of biodiversity

All of this is funded with PUBLIC MONEY under the cover of improving infrastructure when in fact it is not necessary.  

In 2009, Fuerteventura was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and large constructions such as airports, highways, marinas, and industrial ports go against ground values of sustainable development and the protection of biodiversity. 

The 32 million euros project will take years to complete, meaning years of dust, noise, and traffic jams in the marina and the surrounding area. Big walls will block the beautiful view of Lobos and Lanzarote and the uniqueness of a city that offers people access to so many water activities without having to commute by car will be lost. 

This project is not progress and what will be destroyed has a way higher value than what will take its place. This will be a terrible loss to the people and island of Fuerteventura, and we are asking for your help to SAVE THE BAY.
