Warum ist diese Petition wichtig?

Gestartet von Ribeira Aljezur

The Camara of Aljezur is about to use a Glyphosate salt Herbizid in order to keep the reeds (Canas) along the riverbed from regrowing. This is part of a big campaign of restructuring the river system.

Biologists claim that potential damages by using herbicides near a unique ecosystem that is home to otters, kingfishers and critically endanged fish species are largely unknown. Substantial damage was already done by using big machines on the riverside.

The Camara has been notified of the dangerous practise by local ecologists and NGOs on numerous occasions only to be ignored.

The problem about glyphosat is that it destroys not only that one specific plant but endangers a whole ecosystem, from the microorganisms in the soil to creating cellular cancerous mutations in the cells of the creatures in the water and the vegetables and fish that end up on our plate! Not to mention kids playing with sand and potential residuals on the Amoreira river / beach.

So this actually concerns us all !!

With this petition we want to achieve that the camara discusses with our specialists such as biologists, doctors, local professionals, NGO´s and associations how remodeling and cleaning the riverbed can be done in a better, eco-friendly and more sustainable way without endangering the environment and us.

We all love this place for its stunning nature, especially the river beaches of Amoreira Valley, so let us all help together to protect it.

We need 10.000 Signatures with Email adress, NIF / or Passportnumber!!! and there is not a lot of time left until they will start applying glyphosate, but we can still demand a stop of this insanity.

NO to Glyphosate in the Aljezur River
