Why this petition matters

When the Houston Oilers were founded, they chose to use the color Columbia Blue because it was synonymous with the city of Houston. It has been in use within the city for over 100 years. There are street signs, address signs, police cars, and many other things within the city that have long had this color. Even before the Oilers were founded.

Upon moving to Tennessee, The Adams family chose to try to steal those colors from the city in regards to the world of sports. There are several other teams in the NFL specifically that have more similar blue colors than what the Houston Texans are trying to use as an accent color. Yet, Amy Strunk Adams still chooses to petition the NFL into only allowing a certain percentage to be used as the Houston Texans accent colors.

She has even sent cease and desist letters to NCAA teams for honoring their City with a color that is inherently theirs. It's time to put a stop to this. It's time to limit the power that Amy Strunk Adams holds over any light blue color that is used by anything associated with the city of Houston, which once again, has owned that color long before Amy Strunk Adams was ever born.

It is my belief that the Titans are attempting to make themselves relevant and cash out on a wide spectrum of colors that simply do not all belong to them. Either through trying to elevate a rivalry, or through litigation. I think the NFL needs to reevaluate other light blue colors used around the league, specifically by the Lions and the Panthers, and realize that those colors are closer to the ones that Adams and the Titans are actively limiting use of.

By signing this petition, fans are standing up to the Adams family, and sending notice to the NFL that a team should not be barred or limited from using a wide range of colors that are intricately entwined in that city's history.
