Truth in Power (TiP) for AV Receivers
Truth in Power (TiP) for AV Receivers
Why this petition matters
Audio/Video multichannel AV receiver manufacturers no longer provide consistent and honest measurements of their products’ power output/amplification. The absence of standards allows many manufacturers to publish misleading numbers often inflating 2X or more than actual real output power levels and sometimes just summing the maximum distorted power of 1CH driven by the # of channels the product has.
Consumers think they are getting a certain level of performance and in fact may be severely shortchanged. The Audioholics Truth in Power (TiP) Movement brings honesty and consistency so you can rest assured that a product you’re purchasing for audio and home theater will truly perform as advertised.
We are asking you to sign this petition to get the attention of ALL of your favorite audio brands and retailers that manufacturer and sell AV receivers and power amplifiers to at least state:
- 2CH Driven, Full Bandwidth (20Hz to 20kHz) Continuous Power at 8 ohms < 0.1% THD+N
- 3CH Driven Continuous Power with remaining channels driven @ 1/8th 2CH Power Levels at 8 ohms < 0.1% THD+N
- Max Power Consumption
Having this data will allow consumers to make more educated purchasing decisions to more accurately assess product capability.
Amplifier power should NOT be rated into clipping or high distortion figures and is only done so to inflate power claims and mislead the end user.
