Why this petition matters

We the residents of Fresh Meadows, Hollis HIlls, Oakland Gardens, Glen Oaks, Bellerose, Bellerose Manor, Jamaica Estates, Floral Park, Queens Village and Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck want it known that the Creedmoor Property Development is a threat to our quiet suburban neighborhoods.

1) This project will negatively impact our community with thousands of people moving in, causing traffic congestion, overcrowding, crime and environmental damage. Sewage for such a large scale project would certainly be an environmental issue as well.

 2) The 55 acre start will have 3,000 initial units! The average household will be at least 4 people, that is over 12,000 people added to our area. That adds thousands of cars to our our local streets and the present plans include little to no parking!

3) Governor Hochul Plan specifically stated it must be near transportation   hubs, which this area has NONE. We don’t have the infrastructure for a large scale housing project.

4) We demand that Borough President Donovan Richards involve us in the decision making for this development. We want to have neighborhood input on how this project and how it would negatively affect our community and our environment. No Notifications were ever sent out to residents, civic associations or businesses in the area. We have been asking for our input BEFORE your “master plan” is complete and not AFTER it is completed.

5) We as neighbors object to such a large portion of this development will be low-cost and section 8, high density buildings, some over 7 stories high in areas of the plan. A change from the 2 to 3 story buildings we are now zoned for.

6) Since this “Tent City” issue has now brought notoriety to the affected areas, help us show them, we will not go down without a fight.  Attend the rallies as long as it takes and meetings on the future of Creedmoor.  We acknowledge if 1000 people especially those who have been added to the area scare us now , let’s imagine 12,000 people added to our area. This is a low income NYCHA looking proposal. WE NEED INPUT!

Queens Power and other low income housing groups rallied in front of Governor Hochul’s office and others for months demanding 100% low cost housing!

They want to put a Starrett City aka Spring Creek development in our quiet suburban neighborhood. This would change our present zoning for all of eastern Queens which puts all our areas at risk. Look into Nehemiah Housing Projects and see how they allow the areas within them and around them to decay. This is not something we can accept.

The grounds itself have lead and asbestos and will have to be remediated to do this plan. Some of the three story buildings have been remediated and in use. Lovely old buildings which do fit the landscape of our area.

Also the price of these new units if built, should be within the same price range as the surrounding areas. No new projects should be ALL low income in a city that prides itself on inclusion of ALL residents.

The new plan from Mayor Adams called the The City Of Yes, now says that parking areas will not be included in the planning of any new developments to create more living units. This would it thousands of cars on our streets and create congestion our areas were never meant to accomodate.

The proposed (now all low income) development would start out at 55 acres of the 125 acres across from the Creedmoor Psychiatric facility on Union Turnpike all the way to Hillside
Avenue. This is an enormous area that would drastically change our neighborhood's character and quality of life.

We urge Borough President Donovan Richards and Queens Power and other groups not from our area, who are already involved to be transparent. Listen to our concerns and work with us towards a solution that benefits everyone involved.
