Why this petition matters

Started by Citizen Action for Latah Valley

Citizen Action for Latah Valley needs YOUR voice in calling for a major DEVELOPMENT MORATORIUM in the Latah Valley until comprehensive planning can be undertaken and funding sources are definitively marked for needed infrastructure.     Why?                                                                                                   - The current roadway infrastructure is dangerous (I-90/195/Hatch/16th Ave) and is already incapable of handling traffic loads safely or effectively through this part of the city
- Near term projected roadway improvements will likely take years to implement and are not designed to be long term solutions
- This part of the city lacks adequate fire department services
- This part of the city lacks adequate police department services
- This part of the city has NO public transportation
- This part of the city has NO public library
- This part of the city has NO schools (public or private)
- This part of the city has NO safe walking and biking routes connecting to other parts of the city
- This part of the city has NO community center
- The extensive proposed developments are NOT affordable (to most people in Spokane) or low income
- These additional developments will harm the agricultural - current operations and future potential
Further development will harm the wildlife corridors of this part of the city
And the list could go on and on.

Proposed plans for Latah Valley (Grandview Thorpe and Latah-Hangman neighborhoods) already include in the near term 1100-3700 additional housing units, outside of commercial development. Because of lack of planning decades ago and monitoring by the city, any level of major development CAN NOT be adequately, responsibly, or safely absorbed by this part of the city until comprehensive planning is undertaken and funding is identified for needed infrastructure.  Members of Citizen Action for Latah Valley have tried for years to get the City of Spokane to take real action. Despite those diligent efforts nothing has happened.  Your voice is needed!
