Why this petition matters

Started by Dr. Don Samuel

The roadways and drainage in Trinidad and Tobago have severely deteriorated such that they necessitate urgent repair. Roads which are affected by landslips, depressions and potholes are dangerous and could contribute to accidents and fatalities. Inadequate and poorly maintained drainage have led to flooding which has resulted in financial losses and which could result in fatalities. The citizenry is demanding the following urgent actions:

  1. Funding allocated to immediately repair all landslips and potholes affecting the safety and integrity of the nation's roadways. Deadline for completion of all repairs: 1 calendar year.
  2. Funding allocated to undertake engineering studies to determine the root cause of floods and the recommended solutions. Deadline for completion of engineering studies: 1 calendar year.
  3. Funding allocated to execute cleanup of all drainage and create new and efficient drainage paths for the transfer of storm water to adjacent water courses. Deadline for completion of cleanup and establishment of efficient drainage paths: 2 calendar years.
  4. Funding allocated to long term solutions: (a) national traffic and transportation study inclusive of road structure analysis, (b) national drainage study inclusive of satellite mapping, (c) establishment of estuary infrastructure to cater for high tides, (d) establishment of national flood warning system using new technologies. Deadline for completion of studies, infrastructure and installation of warning system: 5 calendar years.
