Background:

On Thursday, August 17th, 2023, around 7:20 PM, a deeply troubling incident occurred during a game hosted by the Richmond Hill Soccer Club Raiders at the Bayview Hill Community Centre and pool park. A young black player faced physical and verbal abuse not only from other team members but shockingly, from their coach as well. This incident has raised grave concerns about the suitability of this coach and certain players to continue participating in youth soccer events.

The Demand:

1. Immediate Removal of the Coach: Given the severe and inappropriate conduct exhibited by the coach during the game, it's clear that such behavior is unacceptable, especially in a setting meant for children. Such actions can inflict lasting psychological harm. We demand the immediate removal of this coach from the Richmond Hill Soccer Club Raiders and any affiliated youth soccer activities.
2. Evaluation and Action Against Involved Players: We understand that children make mistakes. However, there needs to be accountability. The players who participated in the bullying and abuse of the young victim must be evaluated, and appropriate action should be taken, up to and including temporary suspension or removal from the game. This is necessary not only as a corrective measure for the guilty parties but as a clear signal to others that such behavior will not be tolerated.

The physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of children should always be the top priority in any youth sporting event. Coaches are entrusted with not only teaching the game but also instilling positive values and ensuring the safety of every child under their watch.
