Why this petition matters

Started by Louise Prud'homme

With the highest median age in the country, Oceanside needs to make its streets and trails accessible to the mobility challenged population.  Adding (instead of removing) benches is an easy, inexpensive and common sense way to achieve this.

We are hereby asking that several benches be installed everywhere safe on streets and trails in Oceanside so that mobility challenged people can go for errands or for a walk knowing that they can rest as often as needed.  Please, give access to their town to the elders and disabled.

Handicapped accessible trails, parking spots and washrooms are a good start, but for those who are not there yet, who walk with a cane or poles or even unaided for short distances, there needs to be a way for us to remain active and to take advantage of the outdoors.  You would be amazed at how many of us there are if only you would give us a chance to get out!
