Why this petition matters

Started by Jarod Hoogland

The Mission Inn Foundation is currently under threat due to potential breach of a long-term lease agreement. This agreement was made when the hotel was sold into private ownership and has been an essential part of maintaining its historical integrity. We urge both the owners of Mission Inn hotel and city officials to honor this agreement.

Beyond hosting the physical museum, the Mission Inn Foundation trains and provides the well-known Docent led tours of the Mission Inn hotel, including those to Riverside students, VIP guests of the Inn and City as well as visitors to our city.  The Mission Inn Foundation researches and develops exhibitions about the Inn, showcasing many artifacts from 120 years of Mission Inn hotel history.  The Mission Inn Foundation develops education programs, including the award-winning Hands-on-History program, which engages English Language Development students to explore the history of their community while gaining valuable skills.  The Mission Inn Foundation also hosts a wide variety of public programming, including well known events such as the Mission Inn Run and Frank Miller Civic Achievement Award.

The Foundation was specifically written into the sales agreement to ensure that the community would retain access to its most treasured landmark, through tours, research, education, collections care, exhibitions, and museum services.   Ignoring this lease agreement could lead to irreversible changes that would rob us of our shared heritage. We cannot allow short-term interests to overshadow our long-term commitment to preserving this historic site for future generations.

We call upon all residents of Riverside who value their city's history and culture to join us in urging both parties involved - the owners and city officials - to uphold their end of this crucial lease agreement. Please sign this petition today!
