END MASS SHOOTINGS

As of September 2023, the United States of America has experienced over 518 mass shootings. These shootings take place in our streets, our places of work, our grocery stores, our parades, our places of worship and where we send our children daily: our schools. There have been over 2,000 school shootings since 1970, with numbers dramatically rising since the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012. This epidemic of mass shootings is uniquely American, and it’s unacceptable. 

In addition, we are seeing hate throughout television, social media, and within our communities. When racism is paired with a weapon of war, it adds a level of terror in everyday life for people of color. As we have seen on multiple occasions, these communities are targeted from afar and are instantly made victims for simply existing. 

The majority of the deadliest shootings in modern American history were committed with an assault weapon. The impact that these weapons and terrorist acts leave behind is horrific. They are designed to cause mass destruction. They are unforgiving and instantly deadly. They enter the body to liquefy organs, leaving pure and unrecognizable devastation. In a school setting, there is no training that can prepare teachers, clinicians and staff to face this potential occupational hazard. Within our communities, no matter the efficiency of first responders or impeccable training of medical professionals, most people shot by an assault weapon never even make it to the ER; they go straight to the morgue.

We are calling on the U.S. Senate to pass S.25 and the House of Representatives to pass H.R. 698, to federally ban assault weapons so we can end the epidemic of mass shootings in America. 

This petition is led by March Fourth, a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy group with one mission: to end mass shootings. In order to do so, participation is required.
