KSU Emergency Contraception Access
KSU Emergency Contraception Access
Why this petition matters
The university must expand emergency contraceptive access on campus!
After the supreme court overruled Roe v. Wade with the Dobbs decision, access to emergency contraception is more important than ever. We, Students for a Democratic Society, are campaigning Kent State University to increase emergency contraceptive access for students.
We demand that:
1.The university installs Plan B emergency contraceptive vending machines in the first floor student center bathrooms and the first floor tri towers bathrooms.
2. The Deweese Center should open on the weekends in order to accommodate students' busy schedules
Currently on campus, pregnancy tests and emergency contraception are available at the Deweese Health Center. However, the health center has limited hours and depending on insurance, can be cost-prohibitive. Planned Parenthood is also an option but is only open two days a week. This makes reproductive healthcare inaccessible for many students on campus. especially given how time-sensitive reproductive healthcare is now after the Dobbs decision and the 6-week abortion ban in Ohio.
We demand that the university install plan b vending machines in the bathrooms in the first-floor student center, and the Rotunda. These will ensure around-the-clock access and privacy, with little to no cost barrier. This will increase access to these necessary resources.
