GlitchCon: #FixWattpad

I’m @black-cypher on Wattpad and on the behalf of all of you, I’d like to take a step forward in demanding this app to perform at its best quality.

We, the content creators of Wattpad, demand a better outlook and performance. There has been constant complaints of glitches despite the constant and unnecessary updates. According to expandedramblings.com , there are currently 80 million users and more than 22 billion minutes spent per month. Those kinds of activities brings in a lot of money, and if they have that kind of money, surely Glitchpad can fix a number of complaints that has been frequent for months on end.

This is a quote from their News and Updates book on May 14, 2020:

“Over the last few months, we've read your comments, threads, and even that one petition �The people have spoken, and they want - no, need - a way to read comfortably in the dark.”

This is why I’ve started the petition, so hopefully they can see this as well and take action.

IMPORTANT!!! Before I get into the list of complaints, I would like to say that I’m organizing a series of events on Wattpad called GlitchCon. There’ll be organized dates where we will call/email (don’t spam!) and PROFESSIONALLY demand them for a better outlook and performance. Below are list of complaints, mostly generalized for convenience. It may seem short, but it’s very frequent and common among many that I’ve spoken to:

1. Words that are italicized in stories are automatically turned to bold when published/saving the chapter to draft.
2. A lot of us write our stories on our phone notes. When we copy and paste it on Wattpad, however, all of the italics and bold disappear (stylish fonts may be understandable since it may be tricky to stay intact). It’s inconvenient for people who write elsewhere before transferring it to the app.
3. Glitchpad part 1: missing search bar, missing stories, missing messages, missing notifications of comments on stories, missing books from libraries.
4. Views and votes take a long time to update for some people.
5. Glitchpad part 2: Reports that people are unable to post chapters, even after trying for more than an hour.
6. Stories taken down without a warning or explanation, getting rid of hours of work and commitment. I’ve been told by the Wattpad Team that it’s because they have to filter through millions of stories, but an autobot that messages each person and gives them a strike or a deadline to rectify their mistake would be nice.
7. Messages take too long to load.
8. Message board notifications are not taken directly to that message, instead we need to scroll all the way down.
9. Glitchpad part 3: messages and comments doubles, screen turns black when writing a chapter, emojis disappear when typing an emoji on messages/message board (usually IOS devices). 

 

Suggestions (besides fixing the glitches listed above):

 

1. An option to edit comments. 
2. Emojis available on messages and message board. 
3. It’d be useful if we can click on a message board notification and it takes us directly to that message with a highlighted indication, similar to Instagram/YouTube.
4. 2-weeks notice of books in danger of being taken down, unless it is dangerous/harmful (promoting self-harm, abuse, bullying, pornography, etc).
5. A total word count for each story
   Writer analytics to be available on mobile devices. 
6. People are unsatisfied with the most recent update since everyone has been used to a certain button at certain place for all these years. It’d be great to switch back.
7. The option to click on a comment (especially on a message board) and the username automatically displays in the reply box, making it easier to respond.
