Save Epstein Theatre - Liverpool City Council to continue financial support
Why this petition matters
Liverpool's Epstein Theatre will close on 30 June 2023 after Liverpool City Council end its lease and financial support for the venue. The Liverpool city centre venue has presented the very best in local, national and community entertainment since 1913. The theatre is a grade-II listed, historic building which also carries the name of one of the city's most famous sons; Brian Epstein.
The Epstein Theatre is a local cultural gem, a mid-scale receiving house; programming popular productions, for a wide and diverse community. The productions that Epstein Theatre present have no other home in Liverpool city centre. The people of Liverpool will lose out on a whole host of live entertainment, which is essential for the health and wellbeing of the community, when the theatre closes. The Epstein nurtures local talent, enabling new and upcoming artists to develop new and exciting, popular work which then tours the country.
Urgent action is required now to save this historic venue. We must preserve the cultural heritage of this unique building for the future and prove to Liverpool City Council that this venue is value for money for the tax payer. We believe that the people of Liverpool deserve a say in what happens to their cultural assets.
