Друзья, мы обращаемся к вам в связи с ситуацией, сложившейся на Олимпиаде. Камила Валиева, замечательная спортсменка, великий труженик, милая девушка, подвергается травле, особенно в англоязычных изданиях. В чем же вина Камилы? Обвинители говорят "Спорт должен быть чистым". Разумеется, никто с этим не спорит. Но что же сделала Камила, чем она опорочила спорт? "Она принимала допинг". Правда? Камила, очень умная девушка, перед главными стартами в своей жизни пошла в аптеку и попросила "Дайте мне что-нибудь, что никак не поможет в катании, зато сразу будет заметно в пробе, ведь меня постоянно проверяют". Так дело было? Вряд ли.

Мы пока не знаем, что случилось. Вариантов очень много. Но здравый смысл и презумпция невиновности говорят о том, что вины самой Камилы в этой ситуации нет. Не говоря уже о том, что в 15 лет человек не может контролировать все вокруг (многие не могут и в 50). А травят именно ее.

Мы видим тут 2 исхода:

1. После тщательного расследования, ВАДА найдет доказательства, что Камила по своей воле нарушила антидопинговые правила. Мы в это категорически не верим, но будем вынуждены извиниться и закрыть эту петицию.

2. Никаких доказательств вины Камилы не будет найдено. Это будет означать, что ВАДА, МОК, ИСУ, журналисты, спортивные чиновники целенаправленно травили 15-летнего подростка ради каких-то своих целей. Точнее, цели понятны. ВАДА, МОК, ИСУ изображают видимость работы, журналисты пишут статьи, менее талантливые спортсмены напоминают о себе (не будем приводить примеры, их более чем достаточно - те, кто вчера восхищался Камилой, сегодня смешивают ее с грязью). Глава USADA, как обычно, грозится каким-то непонятным образом распространить американские законы на весь мир, чтобы наказать русских (заметим, что проба находилась отнюдь не в России, да и все события начались сразу после того, как команда из известной всем страны оказалась на втором месте). Если это не позор, то что вы называете позором?

Чего мы требуем?

1. Спортсмены, заслужившие медали, должны быть немедленно и публично награждены;

2. ВАДА/МОК/ИСУ должны принести публичные извинения Камиле за неподтвержденные подозрения и свои действия;

3. Обязать ВАДА и МОК впредь проводить расследования перед применением мер к спортсменам, т.е. исходить из презумции невиновности. Это сложно выполнить? Да. А кто обещал, что их работа будет легкой?

4. На любые высказывания спортивных чиновников, подобные приведенному выше, должна следовать немедленная и жесткая реакция соответствующей международной федерации (ИСУ в данном случае);

5. Запретить ВАДА обнародовать имена спортсменов до завершения расследования, пресекать случаи утечки информации.

Заметим, что здесь мы даже не упоминаем выдающийся талант Камилы. Пункты 3,4,5 должны быть общими, независимо от конкретного спортсмена.

Justice for Kamila, reform for WADA
(Do not treat athletes worse than criminals. Innocent until proven guilty!) 

We are deeply disturbed by the recent developments at the 2022 Beijing Olympic games. Kamila Valieva – an inspirational young woman, a hard-working athlete and the top figure skater of her generation - is now the subject of gross bullying by the Western media.

What did this 15-year-old do to deserve this? After Kamila skated to the top score in the ladies’ singles event within the team skating competition, helping team Russia to win the competition, WADA announced that testing of her sample from late December 2021 came back and revealed a trace sign of a forbidden heart medication (Trimetazidine). The test took six weeks to complete by a lab in Sweden (a much longer than what is expected for such a test) and the announcement of results coincided perfectly with the end of the team competition, prompting officials not to give out medals at that event. All of Kamila’s prior samples were clean, and the sample tested in Beijing, during the Olympics, was also clean. An investigation is ongoing into what happened with the sample and whether doping was indeed conclusive.

We completely agree that sports and the Olympics should be clean. And we sincerely doubt that Kamila knowingly took a medication that would not help her perform as a figure skater, has potential side effects, and would be immediately detected on a drug test. And that she did it within two months of the biggest event of her young, yet already accomplished, athletic career.

We do not know what happened with her sample in December 2021. There are many possibilities. Common sense and the presumption of innocence suggest that this situation is not of Kamila’s doing. Keep in mind that a 15-year-old cannot control everything around her. And yet, the media keeps bullying specifically her!

We see two possible outcomes:

1.            After a thorough investigation, WADA will find evidence that Kamila violated the anti-doping rules on her own volition. We do not believe that this will happen but if it does, then we will close this petition and apologize.

2.            There will be no evidence of any wrongdoing by Kamila. That would mean that WADA, IOC, ISU, countless journalists and pundits, various sports federation officials have all bullied an innocent 15-year-old teenager.

We realize that journalists get paid by the click and need to sensationalize everything they see.  And we realize that the job of various sports federation officials is to put their athletes on the podium, even when the on-ice competition alone will not get them there. But we reject the smearing which is done in the name of bumping someone off the podium.

It is absolutely fascinating how quickly the media goes from admiring a beautiful, record-setting performance by Kamila one day, to throwing dirt on her the next.

It is fascinating how WADA, whose lab kept the sample on a desk for over a month, attempt to cover its incompetence by claiming that the sample should have been marked for expedited processing (but why is it more expedited than a sample for any other athlete actively competing at this time?). Or how all the involved organizations were complete oblivious with protecting the privacy of an athlete who is still a minor.  Shame on everyone involved in this non-sense!

And that includes the head USADA, who does not need any hard evidence to start threatening to somehow enforce American laws globally, so to make sure the Russians are punished. Let’s not forget that the sample sat on a desk in Sweden, not in Russia. How interesting that the smear campaign started right after team USA placed second at the team competition.

Here are our demands:

1.            Athletes who deserved medals through competitions should be immediately and publicly honored with a medal ceremony.

2.            WADA, IOC, ISU must publicly apologize to Kamila for the unvalidated accusations and the abhorrent handling of this case.

3.            WADA and IOC must be required to conduct investigations before coming out with any accusations or repercussions against athletes and assume innocence until the guilt is clear. This is not easy but getting paid millions per year should require some effort in return.

4.            The international sports federation (the ISU in this case) should firmly and unequivocally condemn any comments made by a sports federation official regarding ongoing investigations.

5.            Forbid WADA from releasing the names of athletes until all investigation is complete. WADA must realize the human cost of its negligence and it must start respecting the privacy of athletes from all countries.
