It always seemed kind of strange that you could donate a dollar to elections on your tax returns. I thought to myself, why? Well, I then thought who could benefits. 

What about this - a box you could check and enter a dollar amount from your tax return which would go to Veterans who make less than a certain dollar amount. Some might say 'well we'd need to pay for the system to send that out, etc' which I think could be covered with a portion of the money that was donated. Also, I think it would be fair to have it be non-taxable income; someone who is poor and gets the money then is bumped up to a different tax bracket - that wouldn't be helpful.

I have a friend who is a Veteran and on a very fixed income. HE can't work, and struggles every month to pay his electric bill and his Internet. I asked him 'would an extra hundred bucks be helpful?' He said it would change his life.

I think this is doable, and politically a win for all involved as this would require an act of congress. I really don't know how that all works to be honest, but I figured this would be a great first step. I don't care if someone else takes credit for it; in the end, I think it could help a lot of people who have been in the service and could use help.
