Why this petition matters

Join the Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba to help them free the Cuban children political prisoners. In Cuba, at least 23 children are imprisoned for peacefully taking the streets to demand freedom on July 11, 2021. Some of these children are awaiting trial with precautionary measures of release on bail or home confinement. It is our moral duty to demand their immediate release.

When you sign this petition, decision makers will receive an email with a message requesting the freedom of this minors. You can also publish on social media using the hashtag #FreeTheChildren. Article 56 of the Cuban Constitution recognizes the rights to assembly, demonstration, and association, but the Cuban state violates the rights of the Cuban citizens. The Cuban government accuses these children of sedition, public disorder, and contempt.

In violation of the provisions of the Penal Code, the Constitution that governs Cuba and the international treaties that protect the rights of children, the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Cuba acknowledged having prosecuted some 55 minors, whom it has accused of the crimes of sedition, attempt, and public disorder, after participating in the massive demonstrations of July 11, 2021.

The Cuban state has manipulated the cases of these children to process them as common criminals, a practice that it has developed over decades to hide the presence of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in Cuba. For this reason, the state has been able to repeatedly avoid overseeing from international organizations to verify the status of its prison system.

The UNICEF office based in Havana remains silent in the face of these violations. As a result of whatever pressure, the Cuban government exerts on it, it has not yet made a statement about the serious situation of these imprisoned children, despite a direct call made by UNICEF Latin America expressing concern and alarm about the Cuban minors.
