Restrictions in anchorages in Langkawi, Malaysia
Restrictions in anchorages in Langkawi, Malaysia
Why this petition matters
We refer to a Port Circular No. 09/2016 by Director of Marine (Jabatan Laut) Northern Region dated 6 May 2016 restricting leisure crafts to anchor is only 2 locations in Langkawi, Malaysia, which is in Kuah and Telaga.
We are sincerely hopeful that the Government of Malaysia, via the letter above, reconsider the Circular for the following reasons:-
1. Langkawi is a yachting hub and a place which has been promoted by your tourism authorities to have 99 beautiful islands that we can explore.
2. By having this restriction not only reflects the opposite to what has been promoted to us, but intuitively gives us the impression that Langkawi is not welcoming us.
3. By having this restriction due to safety concerns gives us the impression that Malaysia is not in control of its own security situations, which is totally opposite from what we know about Malaysia.
4. We also feel that the freedom to anchor (notwithstanding port and naval limits) is a basic human travel right.
We hope that Jabatan Laut reconsider this Circular because it really discourages people from visiting Langkawi. And we feel that will be opposite to what thhe people Langkawi and Malaysia wants. Thank you.
