Why this petition matters

Started by Adrianne Simeone

The safety of our children is at stake. Most recently, the tragic story of a 12-year-old boy who died by suicide after being sexually exploited online is a stark reminder of the dangers lurking on social media platforms.

These sites, particularly Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, but also Snapchat, Tiktok, Discord and others, have become hunting grounds for predators and pedophiles who openly network, exploiting the ease and lack of safety standards to prey upon innocent children.

Whistleblower Arturo Béjar testified in November 2023 that Meta is well aware of these risks but continues to spend millions each year lobbying against regulations that would protect our children. This blatant disregard for child safety is unacceptable.

Major exploitation platform, Omegle, recently shut down after a continuous flood of lawsuits due to the danger children faced by the ease of access to predators.

We demand stricter safety standards on social media platforms to protect our children from sexual exploitation. Social media giants, Like Meta, profit billions and commit millions to fighting against stricter safeguards for children and to stop online exploitation.

***In January, a hearing will be held to hold Social Media CEO's accountable for child safety - SIGN THIS PETITION to show your support for protecting children.**

We will be sharing signatures with the committee before the hearing in January.

If Meta and other platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, Discord, and others will not prioritize child safety - then we must.

Sign this petition to stand up for keeping kids safe - no social media access for children under 18 until these platforms prioritize safety.

No to Facebook, Facebook Kids Messenger, Instagram, Snapchat, Tiktok, Kik, Telegram, Tumblr, Twitter - No apps or sites that enable children to chat or post videos/images.

These apps should be held accountable for knowingly failings to protect children and enabling predators to exploit and share images of child sexual abuse.
