Speed reduction on A140, Stratton Strawless and Hainford
Why this petition matters
Stratton Strawless Parish Council (SSPC) and Hainford Parish Council (HPC) are looking to reduce the speed of the A140 in the villages to 40mph.
Currently around 82,000 cars use this stretch of road each week and it is becoming increasing difficult for road users to turn onto the A140 from the Shortthorn Road, Parish Road and Waterloo Road junctions. There have been numerous accidents, some just fender benders, but others much more serious and sadly deaths. HPC and SSPC would like to see a continuation of the 40mph that Hevingham currently have.
There are bus stops located by the entrance to Stratton Strawless Hall and busses have to stop directly on the highway as there is no designated layby. This means that bus users are crossing an extremely busy highway, sometimes at night, without the aid of lights or a central island. Sadly there have been reports of accidents involving pedestrians here.
The junction of Serpentine Land is becoming increasingly dangerous as drivers wanting to avoid the long delays at the Shortthorn Road junction use it as a cut through. The line of sight to the left, when trying to turn right onto the A140 it very bad and sadly there has been a fatality at this junction in the past.
There is also an increase in wildlife in the surrounding woodland resulting in many deer having been killed on this stretch of road in recent months.
