Why this petition matters

Started by Muhammad Ibraheem

Thousands of Discord users are being locked out of their accounts due to the problematic account verification system. When attempting to log in, users are greeted with the message:

"We detected something out of the ordinary going on. To continue using Discord, we will need to verify your account."
However, when they attempt to verify using their phone numbers, the required verification code is often never sent. This issue has caused widespread frustration, affecting casual users, server administrators, and community organizers alike. Discord, a platform relied upon for everything from gaming to work collaboration, is failing its users by leaving them stranded.
If Discord does not fix this system, the consequences will be severe. Users will continue to lose trust in Discord's infrastructure and support, leading to unnecessary disruptions in communities and professional collaborations. Admins and moderators are being locked out of their accounts, creating chaos in servers and undermining their ability to manage or participate. For many, Discord is more than a social platform—it’s a professional tool—and unresolved issues are damaging productivity and the overall user experience.

Despite claiming these measures are for "security purposes," Discord has not provided transparency about why accounts are flagged or why the SMS verification system fails. The ongoing use of this flawed feature is not only inconvenient but also alienates the platform’s most loyal users.

This issue needs to be addressed immediately. Each day this system remains broken, more users face unnecessary obstacles, and trust in Discord erodes further. The company must take action to fix this process, improve support response times, and provide clear communication about security policies.

We urge Discord to revamp or remove the phone verification system, offer a working alternative, and commit to supporting its user base effectively. It’s time for Discord to prioritize the needs of the people who rely on its platform every day.Example
