For every woman, whether she is young or old
For every boy and man
For every human being who loves freedom

This is not time for halfhearted condemnations. We cannot be indifferent concerning what has been happening in Iran for months. We must strongly and unreservedly condemn the violence of the ayatollahs' regime, authorities driven by their hatred and religious bigotry, who oppress, torture and kill every person considered impure. Theirs are blood-stained rules. Their belief is death and violence.

However, the desire for freedom is stronger than the terror imposed by the regime. Contrary to the past, protests in Tehran and across the country are proving to be unstoppable. What we are witnessing is a tenacious struggle without leaders, but driven by a simple demand: Jin, Jian, Azadi. Woman, life, freedom.

Erasing femininity and beauty is what the regime desires. Compressing every space of freedom is its mission. The moral police wants to reinforce its principles with beatings and the religious authorities are dispensing death sentences against "the enemies of God."

We cannot stand idly in front of underage girls raped and murdered because they do not wear a veil, mothers forced to keep silent or lie in order not to end up like their daughters and fathers deprived of any future perspective for their families.

Women and men of Iran know that the regime's time is ending; the flame of freedom is burning in their hearts. The regime's violence and threats will not be able to extinguish it.

Now, the West must raise its voice. The Luigi Einaudi Foundation has chosen not to look away but, instead, to act by all means. To be messengers of what is happening, to uncover the facts even when they shock our conscience, this is our choice. More, this is our duty. A moral duty, even before a political one.

Our attention will be constant. Tireless will be our demand to the Italian and European political class for concrete actions. Only a "quantum leap" in the international reaction will be able to stop the Iranian authorities.

Let us remember not to take for granted the privileges we enjoy in our free world. They were achieved after centuries of wars and social conflicts: let us defend them always and always with the same intensity.

Freedom is universal, neither from the West nor from the East. Today it has a new face: the smiling and radiant face of the women assembled in Iranian squares.

Let us not leave them alone. Let us join them and support them with every tool in the reconquest of their unquestionable rights. For a free Iran.
