Why this petition matters

Started by Anna Schurer

In 2019, after years of lobbying, the UK government finally added Dupuytrens to the list of industrial diseases that compensation can be claimed for, for people who have worked with heavy vibrating tools long enough.

Now, because they fear too many people will claim, they changed the law and it is only possible to claim at 45 or more degrees MCP joint, which means waiting with any treatment until the finger is badly contracted. (PIP joint rules have not changed) . Waiting this long will create considerable problems for many in everyday life, and means surgery is likely to be less successful than if it had been done sooner, and may have to be more invasive.

We want the government to change the rules, and ideally say 'any contracture' or 'causing pain or problems in hand function'.
