'Don’t send me back to die' - cancer patient pleads with Home Office to stay in UK.

Lewin Williams is a 74 year old pensioner faces death "within a year" if returned to Jamaica. He has been in the UK for over 18 years surviving doing odd jobs.

Birmingham is his home now and people reading about his story from all walks of life are urging the Home Office to let him stay.

Lewin has lived in Birmingham since 2003. He came on a visitor's visa, which lasted till June 2004, and remained under the impression he had settled status.

He was first diagnosed with myeloma, a type of blood cancer, in 2019 and has been battling the illness for the last three years. He has been in and out of hospital ever since whilst undergoing chemotherapy.

Lewin told us “I don't try to hurt anyone, I just keep myself to myself and I don't want any trouble. The only thinking I had in me is, how will I make it and when am I going to pass away?' I kept praying and praying. I just keep going. I feel over the moon that so many people have signed my petition.”
