The Tennessee Valley Authority plans to replace coal-burning electric power plants with gas-burning plants, investing $3.5 billion plus, according to the NY Times, March 18, 2022. Burning gas creates more greenhouse gases that are heating our planet and has health and safety hazards to people at the point of extraction, along the pipelines, and at the point of combustion. The average cost of generating electricity from renewable sources is coming down rapidly and is actually less than fossil fuels. TVA--which is federally owned but run by an appointed board--must ditch fossil fuels and invest in renewable energy plants, for the sake of the people it serves and for the future all of us.
