Re-open a public inquest into the death of Eden Westbrook
Re-open a public inquest into the death of Eden Westbrook
Why this petition matters
15-year-old Eden Westbrook, lived in a small seaside town in Tasmania.
One night after a minor disagreement with her family she left home. The next morning, she was found dead hanging from a tree on the main road into the town.
The family don’t believe she took her own life.
As part of a podcast series called The Garden Of Eden, we looked into this tragedy and found that there were loose ends that needed answering.
These loose ends included:
A woman that was last to see Eden alive and has never been questioned by police.
Missing CCTV footage that has not been viewed by the family
Multiple new witnesses coming forward alleging other people could have been involved.
Written witness statements from these new witnesses, naming two people.
A whistleblower who names the same two people
The family has never had a public inquest, open to all into Edens death , instead the coroner conducted a 'record of investigation into death' (without inquest)
Our hope is that we are able to petition the DPP of Tasmania Daryl Coates SC and also Elise Archer MP: Attorney-General, Minister for Justice, Minister for Corrections and Rehabilitation; and Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs.
We are calling for an open and transparent public enquiry into Eden’s death and the investigation that took place.
