Why this petition matters

Started by Gill Kaczmarczyk

I am immunocompromised due to the medication I take for my kidney transplant. I have had four Covid-19 vaccine jabs, but I still have not developed any antibodies. Covid-19 remains a real and significant risk to 500,000 immunocompromised people in the UK; 40% of people whom have a lower antibody protection than healthy people.

The government announcement last week, that the legal requirement to self- isolate after a positive PCR test could end in a couple of weeks, will make myself and many other immunocompromised people feel at an even greater risk than ever before.

This group need further help and support ‘to live’ with Covid-19 as the pandemic moves into the next phase. I am asking the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Sajid Javid for specific support to help the 500,000 immunocompromised group.

  1. Develop a policy about the potential for preventative treatments to support a prevention-rather-than-cure approach for people for whom the current vaccines are not effective.
  2. Financial support to prevent people having to choose between their health and their livelihoods. The removal of the work from home guidance exposes immunocompromised people to greater risk. Whilst some will be safe in their work environment and some will still be able to continue to work from home, for others this will not be possible. For these people, I would like some financial support and help, so that they do not have to risk their health by going into work.
  3. A Government / National Lead for immunocompromised people. This role will be key in the coordination, implementation and ownership of key policies impacting immunocompromised people by providing leadership and clear communication on key issues.
