Justice for Emmett Till
Justice for Emmett Till
Why this petition matters
The woman responsible for the kidnapping, torture, and abduction of Emmett Till is still alive and free. Carolyn Bryant, in 1955, accused Till of sexual assault in a local grocery store. As a consequence, she ordered his kidnapping and murder. Several nights after the incident in the store, Bryant's husband Roy and his half-brother J.W. Milam armed themselves and went to Till's great-uncle's house to abduct the boy. They took him away, beat and mutilated him before ultimately shooting him in the head, and sinking his body in the Tallahatchie River. Three days later, Till's body was discovered and retrieved from the river.
In recent years, the FBI reopened the investigation into the death of the 14 year old boy. New testimonies from Bryant, in an interview with historian Timothy Tyson, admit the story was fabricated, and that she played a role in his brutal murder. Demand the FBI and local law enforcement act by prosecuting Bryant. Help seek justice.
