Help bring back the Blackrock baths
Help bring back the Blackrock baths
Why this petition matters
Blackrock town has suffered the neglect of its seafront, and especially of the famous Blackrock Baths, since the 80s. It is sad to watch the ruins of what used to be a fantastic public amenity.
We have designed a preliminary concept for a reimagined Blackrock Baths to help stimulate a new awareness and a discussion about this important issue and, with enough signatures from the local public, spark action from Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
Our design concept takes its inspiration from naturally forming pools of the pollock holes in Kilkee, Co.Clare, and would become a free public amenity for anyone wishing to swim in the warm pools of the Irish Sea, and maybe even heated by the use of renewable tidal energy.
The original site of the baths (adjacent to the DART station) is owned by a development company with future plans for commercial construction. That is why we did not propose a refurbishment, rather a proposal on a new site, that is publicly owned.
That being said, our initial proposal serves as an example of what can be done, and we expect it to evolve and change in the upcoming design process which will involve public feedback.
Please see our website for film and imagery of this initial proposal.
