I am writing this petition to have certain books moved to the adult section of public libraries in New Brunswick ( eventually all of Canada ) as well as their absolute removal from our school systems. Whether that be school libraries or the sex education material taught in our schools. Our children are being groomed, confused and sexualized. There are authors that have ties to the porn industry that feel our children are mature enough as young as early readers and teens to explain to them and show them how and where to have sex with either a partner, multiple partners or themselves.How to sext, what porn sites to go to etc.

If this continues this will no doubt become worse. As systematic desensitization words, phrases and pictures are used our children become less able to discern between what are age appropriate discussions and actions verses what are not, which makes them more susceptible to being the target of sexual abuse by those around them as well as complete strangers.  

We need to take immediate action to have books like “sex is a funny word” and “Let’s talk about it” put into the adult section of our public libraries that way if a parent chooses to read them they can do so, which allows them to have informed consent in deciding whether the book is suitable for their young child or teenager. We also need to have these books taken out of schools where parents do not have access to the material prior to their child having access. In my opinion, as a survivor of sexual and domestic violence from the age of 3 and up, I believe I can speak with authority when I say, having these books on shelves accessible for children to read without a parents approval has and will greatly affect the child’s emotional, sexual and mental well being going into their adult lives.

We have seen what sexualizing children has done in the past. Just watch any interview with a survivor of sexual assault and you will see. Or better yet, speak  to one yourself to fully understand how it affects every aspect of their life and in my opinion you will come to the same conclusion as I have.
