Why this petition matters

Concerned residents have signed a petition demanding that unlicensed and unwelcome posters, advertisement boards, hoardings, cutouts, buntings, hangings, and billboards be removed from public parks, road medians, and areas below flyovers. Furthermore, it tries to hold political parties, individuals, and businesses accountable for the costs incurred.

Furthermore, the petition calls on state governments to remove illegal hoardings, posters, buntings, and hangings that detract from the beauty of our country. The defacement produced by these unlicensed displays, which are left unattended in public places like parks and road medians, poses a serious danger to environmental sustainability. Furthermore, the non-biodegradable plastic materials used to make these flex sheets, banners, and buntings contribute to irreversible environmental damage.

Because there are no sanctions and no safeguards in place to collect cleaning expenses, organizations, associations, political parties, and individuals are often emboldened to pollute public spaces and leave posters, cut-outs, and buntings without consequence. The respondents have a duty to protect the environment since Article 21 of the Indian Constitution guarantees the right to life, which includes the right to a clean environment.

Given the considerable environmental concerns posed by campaign materials, it is critical to hold those responsible accountable. Election campaigns, as well as religious and cultural events, make extensive use of flex boards and banners. As a result, with the cooperation of responsible individuals and the Ezhil Vanam Foundation, a Niti Aayog accredited NGO dedicated to environmental and sustainability principles, this case is being filed in the Supreme Court of India, Delhi.

Sign this petition and encourage the Ezhil Vanam Foundation to join us in this noble deed for environmental sustainability. Please visit www.ezhilvanam.org for further details.
