Scrap 'Cost of living' 2 year MOT plans
Scrap 'Cost of living' 2 year MOT plans
Why this petition matters
Transport secretary Grant Shapps has raised the idea of 2 year MOT testing once again. This proposal will likely result in 3 things:
- Higher numbers of dangerous vehicles on the road (which could see higher numbers of accidents leading to repair bills & higher insurance costs)
- Higher repairs bills (explained below)
- Loss of jobs across the Motor Industry (MOT Testers, Mechanics, Parts Advisors, Parts Delivery Drivers Etc.)
With around 30% of UK vehicles failing their ANNUAL MOT Test & approximately 40 Million vehicles on UK roads, moving to an MOT Test every 2 years, with absolutely no amendments to the MOT Testing Manual is downright dangerous. We had a 'soft trial' of this when the Government gave out 6 Month Covid19 extensions & garages around the country saw their failure rates skyrocket.
(Did you know? Nationally, over 20% of vehicles fail on Tyres, over 30% on Suspension & over 20% on Brakes!)
Annual maintenance is often cheaper than repair. (Example: renewing brake pads @ 1.5mm or above will mean in a lot of cases, no further work is required. If the pads are allowed to wear down to the metal, brake pads, brake discs & often brake calipers are required)
By signing this petition, you are rejecting this proposal & what it stands for, unless significant changes are made to the MOT Testing Manual to allow for 24 month intervals.
