Why this petition matters

Started by Samuel Odunsi, Sr.

Underdevelopment in post-colonial countries is a constant source of instability, disorder, and misery in our world. The solution seems obvious: Get developing countries to develop like advanced economies to overcome the symptoms of poverty, corruption, bad governance, wars, dependency, and hopelessness for the masses.

Much of humanity’s hope for a solution is invested in the Development Space, which consists of multilateral organizations like the World Bank, IMF, OECD, and their sprawling support system in Academia and in the public and private sectors around the world.

But despite the financial and intellectual resources it commands, decades of scholarship and research in the development space have not come close to solving the problem. For practical purposes, the development space has been a giant poverty management program. The majority of humanity that it’s supposed to help continues to languish in the degradation of underdevelopment with no end in sight.

But there is an alternative to this stagnation. A solution that addresses underdevelopment at its source to eliminate the symptoms. This alternative is a change in educational curricula for the affected countries. It is based on the fundamental premises of the development space itself. It does not involve uprising, protests, war, or violence. The solution is low risk with maximum reward and can first be tested on a small scale.

Shockingly, the development space has ignored the solution for 2 years. Not because it’s unreasonable or unsound, but because it addresses the central issue of the underdevelopment problem. The central issue is a taboo subject for the development space, the proverbial elephant in the room.

This petition will be used to compel some in the development space to set aside politics and live up to their mandated obligation to permanently relieve needless human suffering by addressing the source of the underdevelopment problem instead of the symptoms.
