Why this petition matters

Started by Russ Phifer

We the undersigned condemn the recent changes in direction and policy associated with Chemical & Engineering News. ACS has completely ignored the wishes of ACS Members by choosing to change the focus of C&EN from science & policy, including chemical safety, to "ACS News". The change from Publications to Communications removes important oversight and editorial independence that was largely responsible for C&EN being the most important member benefit for many if not most Society members. In making these changes, ACS has ignored the wishes of the C&EN Advisory Board, numerous focus groups, and ACS members in general who have repeatedly indicated they prefer innovative science coverage, industry updates & academic news over what appears to be the new direction of C&EN - as an ACS newsletter. What made C&EN an award-winning weekly magazine of interest to many even outside the Society's membership is being lost. We urge the Society's leadership to return the focus of C&EN to where it belongs - as an outlet for esteemed journalists writing on the important stories that impact the chemical enterprise as a whole.
