Why this petition matters

Started by Kampton Kam

We, the undersigned, urge the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to grant equitable access to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) funding for international student-athletes. The current rules in place discriminate against these students by denying them the opportunity to earn compensation for the use of their NIL.

International student-athletes have already contributed greatly to the NCAA's programs, competitions, and its overall success. However, they are prohibited from earning any compensation from NIL deals, while their domestic counterparts can legally do so. This is unjust and inequitable.

Moreover, these students already face significant financial challenges, including higher tuition fees, visa expenses, and other costs associated with living and studying in a foreign country. They should be able to earn income from their skills and talents, especially when domestic student-athletes have the opportunity to do so.

By granting international student-athletes the same access to NIL funding as domestic student-athletes, the NCAA can create a more inclusive and equitable environment for all. This would also align with the NCAA's mission to support student-athletes' overall well-being and success.

We call upon the NCAA to revise its NIL rules and regulations to enable international student-athletes to gain equitable access to these opportunities. We support and encourage the NCAA to ensure that international student-athletes are given the same opportunities to earn income from their skills and talents, regardless of their citizenship status.

Thank you for supporting this important cause.

Sincerely,

Kampton Kam
