Why this petition matters

Started by Sarah Sunshine

LA City Council is sending Chatsworth its homeless. A new skid row is in the works for 91311. Several permanent Homeless Buildings have been planned in a very short distance from one another on the west end of Devonshire. The most disturbing is a 63 unit permanent homeless building at 10243 Topanga Cyn Blvd which is just under a 1 minute walk to Chatsworth Park Elementary school at 22005 Devonshire Blvd. In between the Homeless Building site and the elementary school is Speedway Express gasoline station which houses a gasoline vent. Should a resident of this new Homeless building carelessly toss a lit cigarette butt onto the side walk or the grounds of the gasoline station a catastrophic explosion is possible. Should the gasoline station or the gasoline vent catch fire, the immediate building next door is Chatsworth Park Elementary school. The Homeless building that is set for 10243 Topanga Cyn Blvd needs to be relocated to a safer location, not next door to a gasoline station, and more so, not so close to an elementary school. We need to keep our children safe. The Homeless Building that is set for 10234 Topanga Cyn Blvd will be unregulated and will provide housing for addicted single adults, no families will be allowed in the building, only single adults. There may be registered or unregistered sex offenders moving into that building. There may be registered or unregistered pedophiles  living in the building. It is unacceptable to build this Homeless building less than 1 min walk to an elementary school. Please sign this petition if you feel that LA City Council should reexamine this location and move the project site to a safer location that is far from any public or private school in Chatsworth.
