Why this petition matters

Started by GB Judo Community

We believe that Joe Glynn reflects all the good things about British Judo.

After over 70 years involved with judo and at an age of 92 years old.

Joe Glynn deserves the Honorary 6th Dan grade NOW!

3 years ago, Joe Glynn's club requested (without Joe knowing) the BJA (British Judo Association Ltd) award Joe a honorary 6th Dan grade.

The Club was told to wait "the required time length" and to reapply later. November 2023 when applying again, the club was told that at the board meeting in February 2024 it would be possible to approve their application.

At the February 2024 meeting, of the BJA Board of Directors, they didn't approve the application even if "the rules" clearly allows this.

¶ 4 "..............a judoka's complete judo career is taken into account."

None of the BJA Board of Directors were born when Joe Glynn started training judo and many of the BJA Directors have never even practised judo.

The BJA Board of Directors meet this month, April 2024.

They can end the "red tape" wait and award Joe Glynn his well deserved honorry 6th Dan grade.
So the club and members can surprise Joe with the honorary 6th Dan grade and the belt.

The BBC recognised Joe Glynn's achievements in 2020 and awarded him their "BBC Unsung Sporting Hero Award".
Considering how little media coverage judo gets, an achievement in itself.

Please sign the petition and let the BJA Board of Directors know that when they meet in April.

It is time to:

  • Apply core judo values and common sense
  • Take paragraph 4 into their consideration
  • Do the right thing

Approve Joe Glynn's Honorary 6th Dan Grade application!

Others, like Joe Nunn, have been given a honorary 6th Dan grade by the BJA Directors applying paragraph 4 after first rejecting his application with the reason 10 years had to have passed.
But then the BJA Borad of Directors approved Joe Nunn's application before the 10 years had passed:

¶ 4 "..............a judoka's complete judo career is taken into account."

We suggest that this month, the British Judo Association Ltd Directors spend the 30 seconds it takes to approve the awarding of Joe's Honorary 6th Dan Grade at their April meeting.
