Why this petition matters

Started by Louise Carter

   Madisyn Solomon died of a paradoxical suicide at the age of 27 in Kitchener, Ontario Canada. The pharmaceutical drugs the Doctors gave to help her caused the suicidal ideation that led to her death by suicide .
    There is a way to prevent deaths like Madisyn's. She was living with her Dad and he heard her up in the early morning the day she died. Not knowing to check on her for suicidal ideation and her history on drugs he went to work. He came home later that day to find his daughter hanging from a cord.
     She was hospitalized two weeks before her death for adverse reaction to lexapro and lorazepam (the family Doctor gave her). These drugs caused suicidal ideation. Despite this there was no family meeting and the Doctors continued on with the drugs that led to her death by suicide.

    Had we the family or a care giver been alerted She was starting new pharmaceutical drugs we could have gotten her back to the hospital and saved her life. We needed to be told to watch her for suicidal ideation.  The drug she was prescribed in  the hospital was the hallucinogen pregabalin better known as Lyrica.
    There are quotes from other users of Lyrica stating they could hear voices telling them to do things like jump in front of a bus. I believe my daughters brain was hijacked by the drugs and made to betray her in a compulsive, hallucinogenic moment.
    I would like it to be mandatory in Canada that when a patient is put on psychotropic drugs they have to sign a safety waiver . This waiver would state that at least one caregiver/family member is aware a psychotropic  drug was prescribed . They can watch over the patient for symptoms of suicidal ideation. It would have saved Madisyn’s life.
    This safety waiver is not only good for the patient but the Doctors/health professionals as well. Health professionals would know they had the added security/help. None of us want anyone to be harmed or die.
   In honour of my daughter whose life was cut short I am hoping it can be called “Madi’s Law”. Let’s save some lives! Can you help?
      We have a voice. We can get things done. Grains of sand create a beach, drops of water create an Ocean. Please don’t let my daughter’s death be in vain. I will present this petition to the governing bodies that can make “Madi’s Law” happen if we can get the numbers up!  I know countless others have died or been harmed in the same way.

Dear Honourable Mark Holland,

My name is ____________ and I am emailing in support of the House of Commons petition number 441-01652 also known as Madi’s Law. I believe that a psychotropic drugs safety waiver is urgently needed in Canada to prevent harm and save lives. I believe

A mandatory psychotropic drugs safety waiver should be signed when a patient in Canada is given a psychotropic drug they have never taken before;

These drugs are powerful and mind-altering;

There is no scientific way of knowing how a patient will respond; and

A safety waiver would ensure that at least one caregiver is notified so they can help monitor the patient for adverse reactions such as suicidal ideation until such a time that it's deemed safe for the patient to take the drug

Many have been harmed or died. Please prevent deaths like Madisyn Solomon’s and legislate the use of a psychotropic drugs safety waiver in Canada ASAP. Canadians deserve safer mental health practices. Thank You.
