We, the undersigned, call upon the California State Legislature and CalRecycle to establish a comprehensive, state-wide recycling program for artificial turf.

Background

Artificial turf has become increasingly popular across California due to its water-saving benefits and low maintenance requirements. However, the disposal of artificial turf remains a significant environmental concern. Currently, most used artificial turf ends up in landfills, contributing to environmental pollution and waste.

The Need for Action

A state-wide recycling program for artificial turf is essential for the following reasons:

Environmental Protection: Proper recycling of artificial turf will significantly reduce landfill waste and environmental pollution.
Sustainable Practices: Recycling artificial turf aligns with California's broader goals of sustainability and waste reduction.
Economic Opportunity: A recycling program can create new jobs and industry around the recycling and repurposing of artificial turf materials.

Our Proposal
We propose the following steps to be taken by the California State Legislature and CalRecycle:

Develop a Statewide Recycling Infrastructure: Establish facilities and processes for the collection, processing, and repurposing of used artificial turf.
Create Guidelines and Standards: Develop clear guidelines and standards for the recycling process to ensure environmental safety and efficiency.
Encourage Public and Private Participation: Foster partnerships between government, businesses, and communities to support and utilize the recycling program.
Raise Awareness: Implement educational campaigns to inform the public about the importance and availability of artificial turf recycling.
