Why this petition matters

Started by Dan Burfot

The current weight limit on small trucks and vans is set at 3.5 tonnes gross weight before requiring an o licence and a tachograph, which is now become a hindrance to many ,if not all small businesses.

Modern vans and trucks now have so many additional components added to them to enable reduced emissions, such as ad blue tanks, dpf filters etc, these have added extra weight , thus reducing the vehicles payload.

Some double cab tippers now have a payload of just 500kg.

If the legal limit was increased by just 1 tonne, this would enable fewer vehicle movements, enable businesses to work more efficiently and run smoother.

Modern vehicles have better brakes, stronger chassis and advanced technology to enable them to handle the extra loads.

When electric vans and trucks are the norm, the weight of the batteries alone will not enable any kind of payload.

We urge you to support this campaign now to help self employed and small business to work beyond this problem
